Follow Me Friday is a book meme hosted by Parajunkee's View and Alison Can Read. #FF is a blog hop that expands your blog following by a joint effort between bloggers. In order to join in the fun, all you need is well . . . A book blog :)
The question this week is:
Have you ever bought a book BECAUSE of a bad review?
My answer:
Umm, no. But I've been in the following situation many times:
1. I request a book
2. I see a bad review of it
3. I want to read the book even more, just to prove that somebody out there could like it
The outcome is not always positive, mind you. Sometimes I end up disappointed as well. But there are times when I get to like a book that somebody else rated low.
New follower :) I do the same sometimes, just out of curiosity.

Have a great day :)
Yeah, sometimes it does become a good motivation to read the book after finding about a negative review. Here's mine.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree with your answers. Thank you for stopping by my FF. I'm a new follower too! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's almost the same thing.. kinda lol
ReplyDeleteI'm a sucker for punishment, ESPECIALLY when it comes to the snarkier style reviews -- I always want to read them to see if they're really THAT BAD or not :P
Thanks for stopping by! Old follower -- now following via email (that was the only new option that I found heehee)

Oh, no! It's not the same thing! If I haven't bought/gotten-for-review said book before reading the negative reviews, I most certainly won't get it after reading them. But if I already have it, then I will read it nonetheless, so I could voice my own opinion :)
DeleteThanks for following :)
There will always be someone out there that hates a book you love or visa versa. I always just try to check out the content of the review and see what they did or didn't like. Some bad reviews mention things that I love in a book and that persuades me to buy it. Thanks for stopping by my blog! Old follower!
ReplyDeleteHi there :) just hopping through. I've been in these situations as well.

That might be a similar situation with me too! Like I've read some good reviews of a book, then I buy it, its on the TBR mountain, and then I read some bad reviews. I still plan on reading it. Although with most books I read reviews that are both good and bad. There's never just one type of review out there!

I have the same thing. Sometimes, I end up loving, but most of the times, I tend to hate is as much as the bad reviewers :p But reading is some kind of 'sport' sometimes. Just always watching what other people think and than becoming interested in finding out what my opinion is.

I always feel the same. Then again, I'm more than willing to read books that are rated low instead of just ignoring them. Who knows what kind of pleasant surprises we might found in it. Thanks for stopping by my blog! New follower. :)
ReplyDeleteyes, I definitely agree with ya, not everyone is going to like every single book lol
ReplyDeletenew follower :)
So true that we're not all going to like/dislike the same things. While reviews can help, it's ultimately up to us to make up our own minds.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
Sounds like me xD Trying to prove people wrong :)

I don't think I have this point. I read what I want and a bad review doesn't make me want to read a book. Well if I see a lot of bad review, I understand it won't be for me either. maybe.
ReplyDeleteRebel! LOL I can understand why you'd want to read a badly reviewed book just to prove 'em wrong. *Fist pumps* Hehe... Me personally, have never done that before but I get what you're saying! Thanks for visiting my blog!

Yes, once I read a book despite bad reviews. Interestingly, the story itself was good, but the writing was poor.
ReplyDeleteSame! I like to see if I'd like it. Thanks so much for stopping by :)
ReplyDeleteGreat answer! It also works the same in the opposite. I'll recommend a book to a friend or family member and they won't like it. Matter of opinions :) Thanks for stopping by! *Old follower*
ReplyDeleteHah, yeah. Tastes differ, and I always want to know for myself whether or not a book really is "the worst piece of fiction that has ever been published" or not. *g*

I like your answer. I play it safe. But when I like a book and the reviews are bad I still want to read it and see it for my self.

I'm so late responding to this - sorry, crazy week! Thanks for stopping by my blog before.
ReplyDeleteI have been in a similar situation to you and had similar outcomes. Usually, however, I read the book despite the bad reviews because it intrigued me and I want to see it for myself.
